Our uniquely flexible MMC in Strategic Communication Management is the only online program of its kind in the state of South Carolina. This is school on your schedule—an online master’s degree program that's tailored to meet your needs as a working professional, offering a range of start date options in the summer, fall, and spring.

Which Master's Should I Get?

USC offers similar programs, a Master of Mass Communication and a Master of Data and Communication. Both programs adhere to rigorous academic standards and are taught by our College of Information and Communications faculty.

Master of Mass Communication

Offered as an in-person program and online program by the School of Journalism and Mass Communications


Focus: Multimedia Journalism (in-person only) and Strategic Communication Management


  • Can complete Strategic Communications courses online
  • 36 credit hours
  • Can complete part-time or full-time
  • No certificate option, but an in-person joint JD-MMC is available for those interested in media law

Master of Data and Communication

Collaboration between the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Information Science


Focus: Data-Driven Communications and Data Insights


  • Fully online program with internships offered either in-person or online
  • 30 credit hours
  • Can complete part-time
  • Can complete certificate program (12 hours) first with the option to continue on to also earn a master's degree
